Why CurioRank — in three lines

  • 01The methodology is explained. Every product's 0–100 CurioRank breaks down into category-specific dimensions you can read at /methodology. No black-box “editor's choice.”
  • 02Nothing is pay-to-rank. We publish “what we didn't pick” sections on every major category — including popular products that would generate affiliate revenue if we recommended them. The score isn't for sale.
  • 03No fake testing theater. We don't claim “40 hours in our labs.” We aggregate verified Amazon buyer sentiment, BoardGameGeek scores, AFOL community signals, and published methodology — and we say so plainly.

What we cover

40 categories spanning the full play and gift universe: adult LEGO collectibles, family board games, strategy and teen games, card and party games, screen-free audio for kids, building toys for toddlers, STEM kits for ages 6-10, premium plush and collectibles, ride-on toys and balance bikes, premium puzzles, heritage games, and outdoor & active toys. 222 deeply-reviewed products at launch, scaling toward 50 categories by holiday season.

We launched in May 2026 with the explicit goal of being the most useful play / gift comparison site on the web - not the longest, not the most SEO-stuffed. Useful means: pick a category, see a sortable comparison table, click through to a deep review with a public score breakdown, and decide. In under five minutes.

What we believe

Independent & Unsponsored

No brand pays us to rank their products higher. The recommendations are the same recommendations we'd give a friend. Affiliate commissions fund the site but never bend the picks.

Transparent Scoring

Every product carries a public CurioRank (0-100) with category-specific sub-rubrics. The formula is documented at /methodology. No black-box editor's choice.

Honest about what we know

When a set is in our hands, we say so. When it isn't, we say that too - and cite the public sources we used (Brickset, BoardGameGeek, manufacturer specs, named subreddits). No fabricated bylines, no “we tested 47 hours” theater.

Built for Decisions

Comparison tables on every category page. Sub-score breakdowns on every product page. Built for buyers who want to decide in 30 seconds, not 30 minutes.

How we make money

Affiliate commissions. When you click a "Buy on Amazon" link from a product page and complete a purchase, we receive a small percentage of the sale at no extra cost to you. We also work with non-Amazon affiliate programs (LEGO, Target, Miniature Market, others) where the product is available there too.

Critically: we do not accept paid placements. No brand has paid us to rank their product higher. Multiple products on this site are explicitly disclosed as "skip this" with the higher-priced alternative recommended - that's only possible because the score isn't for sale.

The Federal Trade Commission requires affiliate disclosure, which we satisfy with the standard disclaimer on every product page. The relationship is transparent. The recommendations remain ours.

Start with the methodology

The single best way to understand whether CurioRank is right for you is to read the scoring methodology. It tells you exactly what we do and don't claim.
